In December 1913, 10,000 spectators witnessed the unveiling of a new city slogan sign in the city of Durham, North Carolina. The sign that proclaimed "Durham: Renowned the World Around", sat on top of the Wright Building at the corner Main and Church Streets. The sign was built to welcome visitors arriving by train day or night. Lit by 1230 bulbs, the sign was 41.5" x 31.5". In 1919, a storm damaged the sign and it was never repaired.
